2008 Fair Book Cover, Poster, and Photo Contest
Deadline is March 14, 2008. (Fair Meeting)
Computer generated graphics may be used - make sure your work fits within the boundaries provided. The 4-H Fair Association reserves the right to change any material on the winning cover contest or poster.
The 4-H Fair Association is providing a template with all the necessary information already in place for both the cover and poster contest. Your entry will be the artwork which will be inserted into that template.
General Rules and Regulations
- Contest is open to all 4-H members.
- There is no limit to the number of entries by 4-H members.
- All work must be done by 4-H members.
- All entries must be mailed or dropped off at the New Haven County Extension Center by March 12, 2008 or brought to the March 14, 2008 4-H Fair Association meeting prior to the start of the meeting. (6:45 PM)
- The entries will be voted upon at the meeting. The one receiving the most votes in each category will receive a cash prize.
- Cover and Poster contest entries will be exhibited at the 4-H Fair for the contestant in Class 11. All contestants should pick up their entries with the appropriate ribbons at the close of the fair. If they have not been picked up during Fair cleanup on Sunday/Monday of Fair week the entry will be disposed.
Cover Contest Rules (Also to be used for the Horse Show Booklet)
- A $10.00 prize will be awarded for the winning design.
- Artwork for posters must be 4 ½ inches wide by 5 inches high. (Refer to Fair Cover Template in mailing or check 4-H Fair website.)
- Attach a card to the back of the design and print: your name, complete address, and age.

4-H Fair Poster Contest Rules
We need your help to publicize the Fair. This is another opportunity for 4-H members to do their best work and support the Fair.
- Artwork for the poster must be 7 ½ inches wide by 5 ¼ inches high. All others will not be considered. (Refer to Fair Cover Template.)
- Final submission must be legible and reproducible by copy machine. Erase all pencil lines used to set up design.
- Posters need to stand out to attract attention. In your artwork, be sure to include some of the attractions and exhibits that are drawing cards to the general public.
- Attach a card to the back of the poster and print: your name, complete mailing address and age.
- All posters will be used to promote the Fair.
- The poster receiving the most votes will be professionally printed and given out to the 4-H Fair Association members at the April meeting to post in area businesses. The member designing the winning poster will receive a check for $10 at the 4-H Fair Annual Meeting in the fall. All posters will be evaluated at the 4-H Fair and awarded danish ribbons. Judging will be based on originality, neatness, use of colors, arrangement and design and getting the message across. They will be exhibited in Class 11 - Posters at the 4-H Fair in August.
4-H Fair Book Photo Contest
- Open to all 4-H members, volunteers and their families.
- Selected photos will be printed in the 2008 4-H Fair Book.
- Photos should highlight any of the activities involved in organizing the Fair from 2007.
- Photographer's name, address and phone number should be printed on the back of the photo. Names of people in the picture should also be printed on the back of the photo.
- Submit black & white or color prints, 3 inches by 5 inches or larger.
- Photos can be submitted as a print or on a CD (please put name and phone number on disk).
- The committee reserves the right to crop or size any photos. Photos will not be returned.
All cover, poster, and photo entries should be received by the Fair Association prior to the beginning of the meeting on March 14, 2008.
If you are mailing entries, send to the New Haven County Extension Center, 305 Skiff Street, North Haven, CT 06473. Mark "Attention Cover Contest" on the outside of the envelope. Make sure they are sent in time to reach the office by March 6th and that they are packaged to prevent tearing and bending.
