Connecticut 4-H State Photography and Art Contest

Objectives:

  • To encourage 4-H members to use photography and art as a meaningful communication tool
  • To develop life skills in communication and expressive arts
  • To provide photography showcase opportunity for 4-H members

Criteria:

  • This contest is open to all registered Connecticut 4-H members, ages 7 - 19. Membership in a 4-H photography project or expressive arts project is not required.
  • Age is determined as of January 1, 2006.
  • The contest has two categories, which are Photography and Artwork. See additional information below.
  • Any items must have been taken or created by the 4-H member submitting the entry.
  • The following information must be attached to the back of each entry: name of 4-H member; address; including town/city; state and zip; county affiliation and phone number.
  • There are two separate divisions that may be entered. Entrants must submit their items within the division that applies to them - Junior ages 7 - 12 or Seniors ages 13 - 19.
  • NO frames or mat boards on any artwork or photo. Photos may be inserted in a page protector if desired.
  • Artwork or photography may be of any subject.
  • An individual may submit a total of up to four (4) items.
  • Captions on artwork or photos is optional.

In Addition:

Photos:
  • Traditional prints, enlargements, digital photographs or photos printed by member are acceptable. Digital photos should be of a high resolution for best results in enlargements.
  • Color or black and white allowed.
  • Sizes accepted will be 4x6", 5x7" or 8x10" only.
  • All photos, including digital, must be printed out on photo paper.
Art entries:
  • Artwork is considered to be items that could be framed, such as sketches, watercolors, drawings, and paintings. For this contest, however, no frames or mats are allowed.

Deadline:

Artwork and Photos must be postmarked by midnight March 1, 2006 and returned to Nancy Wilhelm, State 4-H Office, 1376 Storrs Road, Storrs, CT 06269-4134.

Judging:

Judges will be selected from qualified individuals in the field of photography, graphic art or fine arts. Artwork and photography will be judged in separate categories. The decision of the judges is final and not subject to change.

Awards:

All photos will be judged and receive appropriate ribbons using the Danish system. A "Best of Show" rosette will be given in both junior and senior division in both photography and artwork. Photos and artwork meeting certain criteria after judging will be submitted to the New England 4-H Photography and Art Display at the Eastern States Exposition New England Center. Only 5x7" and 8x10" photos will be considered for this particular display. Photos may be scanned and originals may be returned at a future date. The CT 4-H Program will use all items for promotional purposes throughout the year.
