Class Descriptions
FITTING & SHOWMANSHIP: Judged in accordance with the scorecard in the CT 4-H Horse Show Rule Book. Station judging will be used. All 4-H Blue Danish winners in Classes 1 through 3 are eligible for the Premier Showmanship Championship Qualifying Class. Participants in the qualifier must plan to return Sunday for the Premier Showman Contest. The highest placing Middlesex/New Haven 4-H'er of the Championship will compete in the Premier Showman Contest on Sunday at 8:00 a.m..
PLEASURE CLASSES: To be judged on performance, manners & suitability, in both directions of the ring.
EQUITATION CLASSES: To be judged on the rider's ability at a walk, jog / trot, lope / canter, and hand gallop. Judge may ask for individual workout.
SPECIAL NEEDS CLASSES: Open to any impaired and / or challenged rider who may or may not need assistance in the ring. Any age with or without a leader or sidewalker.
HUNTER CLASSES:
- Working Hunter Under Saddle judged both ways of the ring at the walk, trot and canter. Both manners and way of going are judging criteria. Horses may be asked to hand gallop, no more than 8 at a time. Horses may be asked to back and stand quietly.
- Hunter Hack Horse is shown on the flat and may be asked to jump 2 low fences, open a gate or perform individual tasks by the judge. Horses are required to perform at the walk, trot, canter and hand gallop.
COMMAND CLASS: Failure of rider to execute command properly and promptly will cause elimination.
TRAIL CLASSES: To be judged over a series of obstacles that might be encountered on a trail ride. Will be on an outside course. Courses and times will be posted.
Note: Rabies and Coggins Certificates must be brought to the fairgrounds both days.
